Central Asia is a region in the heart of Asia as yet undiscovered by tourists and which has no access to the ocean. It includes the following countries: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

Central Asia is a historically rich region, the cradle of ancient civilizations, the native area of great thinkers and the main crossroads of the ancient Silk Road. Central Asia is a land full of mysteries between the Middle East and Asia.

The population of Central Asia (68.4 million people in 2015) is composed mainly of representatives of Turkic ethnical groups who speak Turkic languages. These are: Uzbeks, Kazakhs, Kyrgyz, Turkmen, Karakalpaks. Another ethnic group that has lived for a long time in Central Asia is the Tajiks and they are representatives of the Iranian ethnical group and speak the Tajik language which is close to Farsi.

Central Asia is characterized by its arid climate. Most of the territory is desert, steppe and semi-desert.

There are about 12 thousand rivers, more than 10 thousand of which have their source in mountainous areas. Only large rivers such as the Amudarya and Syrdarya flow into the Aral Sea across desert regions. The unequal distribution of water in Central Asia means there are few reservoirs and rivers on the plains which cover nearly 70% of the region.

In the mountains and foothills there are many rivers. This uneven distribution of flowing water is due to the characteristics of the climate and the land form. There are few lakes in Central Asia, the largest ones are Lake Aral, Issyk-Kul, Balkhash, Karakul, all of which are tectonic lakes. There are also man-made lakes such as Arnasay and Aydarkul.
